Xplornet Begins Construction to Bring Gigabit Internet Service to Brant County

Xplornet deploys fiber to the premises of nearly 1,600 homes and businesses in the communities of Harrisburg, harley, Fairfield PlainBurch, Newport and middleport

MARKHAM, ON, April 21, 2022 /CNW/ – Xplornet Communications Inc., Canada’s largest rural broadband service provider, announced today that it has begun construction to connect nearly 1,600 homes and businesses in Brant County to Fiber optic internet. People living and working in Harrisburg communities, harley, Fairfield PlainBurch, Newport and middleport will benefit from gigabit speeds to connect to what matters to them in the digital world.

Xplornet was awarded this project by Southwestern Integrated Fiber Technology (SWIFT), a broadband expansion project designed to improve Internet connectivity in underserved communities and rural areas of southwestern Ontario.

The project should be completed in May 2023.

Over the past several months, Xplornet has made a series of announcements about offering fiber-to-the-site high-speed internet to consumers in rural Ontario communities, including:

  • Rewards for SWIFT projects in grey, middlesex and bruce counties to connect 5,574 additional households and businesses.

  • Deliver gigabit speeds in Haldimand County and expand service to reach 19,000 rural homes, businesses, schools and seasonal residences over the next two years.

  • Strategic fiber asset acquisitions to accelerate Xplornet deployment plans.

Xplornet has already announced plans to invest $500 million by 2025 to deploy advanced scalable fiber technology and 5G fixed wireless technology to meet the connectivity needs of rural Canadians and businesses. Thanks to Xplornet’s continued investment in its wireless network, more than 280,000 rural Ontarians already have access to fast download speeds of up to 50 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 10 Mbps with unlimited data on the XPLORE 50/10 UNLIMITED service plan.
