Residents and businesses encouraged to complete survey, data will support efforts to expand broadband access
Internet access is essential to everyday life, whether it’s accessing digital government services, e-learning, telehealth, remote work, e-commerce and other opportunities made possible by high-speed broadband access.
As part of a program to close the digital divide, Hillsborough County is collecting information from residents and businesses to help develop a digital equity action plan and secure funding to provide coverage increased, equitable and efficient internet service across the county.
Part of this effort is asking Hillsborough County residents and businesses to complete an extensive 5-minute survey and speed test, available at HCFLGov.net/Broadband.
Information provided by responding to the survey will be incorporated into the consumer feedback portion of the Hillsborough County assessment and will be used to develop, review, and verify existing information regarding Internet transmission speeds and service availability at broadband. Ideally, the survey and speed test should be conducted from a non-cellular residential or business connection to determine the availability of high-speed Internet in a specific area.
For those with little or no internet access, paper surveys are also available at all Hillsborough County public libraries. The survey will be open until Friday, December 16, 2022.
