Dhiraagu Introduces Gigabit Broadband Internet to Maldives


Telecommunications giant Dhiraagu on Sunday launched a broadband service, which offers download speeds of up to Gigabit per second in the Maldives.

The Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamal inaugurated the service during a ceremony held at the headquarters of Dhiraagu.

The company will also provide routers with the newly introduced service.

Noting that the public needs this service, Minister Maleeh assured that the government will fully support the efforts of public and private companies trying to provide similar services to the public.

“I think the gears launched by Dhiraagu today are an important service for schools, hospitals and offices,” Minister Maleeh said.

Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed said the company prioritizes providing fast internet speeds at the same price throughout the archipelago.

He added that the internet speed would not decrease even if many users are connected to the same network via Wi-Fi.

“It is a huge advantage to have the Internet at such fast speeds when many users are sharing the Internet,” said Ismail Rasheed.

From Sunday, the new service will be available in the capital Malé, the recovered suburb of Hulhumale ‘, Villimale’, Addu, Fuvahmulah, Gan and Funadhoo in Laamu Atoll as well as Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu and Eydhafushi Atoll. in Baa Atoll.
